Known as the British Oscars, the annual event is always guaranteed to bring a star-studded guest-list. There’s already a fair amount of buzz around this year’s event, particularly as the nominations have come under fire for a lack of diversity.
Tonight’s guest list is filled to the brim with big names including Saoirse Ronan, Emilia Clarke, Zoe Kravitz, Renee Zellweger, Charlize Theron, and Kate Middleton – all of whom have dazzled in a series of designer dresses.
Awards season is in full swing in America, and we’ve already seen overwhelming popularity for certain trends including big sleeves, big bows, and monochrome on the red carpet.
It will be interesting to see if similar trends appear in the UK seeing as organisers of tonight’s event have asked the guests to wear something they already own or, alternatively, to hire an outfit.
If things go to plan, the event will be ‘carbon-neutral’ with attendees spending the night walking on a recycled red carpet, wearing hired or already owned clothing, and eating sustainably made food without a piece of single-use plastic in sight.
So far, it seems as though the stars are delivering – Joaquin Phoenix appears to be wearing the same Stella McCartney suit that he has worn all awards season while Kate Middleton has chosen an Alexander McQueen gown that she had made in 2012.
